Pre-arrangements
Benefits
Choosing to pre-arrange a funeral is a deeply personal decision, shaped by each person’s unique circumstances. Over the years, families have shared many meaningful reasons, including:
“I want people to remember me for who I was, so I have specific wishes to personalize my funeral.”
“I feel good knowing everything will be pre-paid, so no one has to worry about covering funeral costs.”
“This gives me peace of mind. It’s one less thing for my loved ones to worry about.”
“My children are scattered around the world. I want to make things easier for them.”
“My family doesn’t always get along. I want to make all the decisions in advance to avoid conflict.”
“I’ve seen how hard it was for my friend’s family when nothing was planned — I don’t want that for mine.”
“This gives me peace of mind. It’s one less thing for my loved ones to worry about.”
“I’m religious, and my family is not. It’s important to me that my beliefs are respected.”
“My partner and I don’t have children. Pre-arranging gives us reassurance that everything will be handled properly.”

Frequently asked questions
What are funeral pre-arrangements?
Pre-arranging a funeral means deciding in advance—either for yourself or for a loved one. Some people plan every detail, while others handle only the essentials and leave the rest for their families to decide. Many also prepay for services to ease both the emotional and financial burden on their loved ones when the time comes.
Do I necessarily have to pre-pay to make a pre-arrangement?
No, you’re never obligated to prepay. However, prepaying offers many valuable benefits. For many people, it brings peace of mind to know they’ve covered their funeral expenses and ensured that their wishes will be honored exactly as planned. Prepaying also locks in today’s prices for services and merchandise, protecting you from future increases. Some individuals choose to record their wishes with the funeral home and let their family or estate handle payment later, while others find comfort in knowing every detail—financial and logistical—is already in place.
What are my payment options?
We provide flexible payment plans with options of up to five years to fit different budgets. Contact us to discuss your needs, and our team will help you choose the plan that works best for you.
My wishes are already in my will. Why should I still make a funeral pre-arrangement?
Although many people include their funeral wishes in a will, the will is often read days or even weeks after the funeral. As a result, loved ones may not know those wishes when they begin organizing the service.
In Quebec, the Act respecting pre-arranged funeral services requires funeral homes to keep your pre-arrangement on file and register it with the Register of Pre-arranged Funeral Contracts (Registre des contrats d’arrangements funéraires préalables).
When you make a pre-arrangement, we securely store your wishes and register them so your family can access them at the right time. This process helps your loved ones avoid confusion or delays during an already difficult period.
I already have a pre-arrangement contract with another funeral home. Can I transfer it to Kane Fetterly?
Yes, you can cancel or transfer a pre-arrangement contract at any time. We understand that some people may have felt rushed into a decision or simply changed their minds about which funeral home they want to work with.
To transfer your contract to Kane & Fetterly, just sign the cancellation form included in your original pre-arrangement agreement. After that, we’ll help you create a new contract that matches your current wishes and needs.
By law, funeral homes may keep up to 10% of the value of goods and services not provided as an administrative fee. However, Kane & Fetterly covers any fees related to the transfer, so you don’t have any additional cost.
